TIPS & TRICKS

Sequences

Animation sequence is a set of animations played one after another, connected by script in a system like AvSitter to create a continuous action.

Types of Sequences (according to me 😄)

Quasi sequence

A sequence of animations that are not created or planned to function as a logical sequence. Meaning you can throw whatever together as long as it makes you happy.

Real sequence (scene)

Imagine one long animation file, cut into smaller pieces to be uploaded to SL (the upload process has its restrictions, you know). These files have to be played in a particular order with precise timing.

They can not be used as standalone files.

They can not be used willy-nilly as you want

They only work properly when played as the animator imagined they should.

Avsitter Sequences

Avsitter offers two types of sequences: one simple and one a bit more complex - but easy once you get the hang of it. I am not going to explain the technical details of how to work with the classic sequence, as that process is on their website, but rather when to use it.

Classic sequence

Classic sequence is the one with its own setup notecard. In the Avpos notecard, all you add is the line

SEQUENCE SomeNameYouGaveIt

and that’s it. It is great for giving users control over the sequence: to pause, to skip, or to let the current part of the sequence loop longer. It is perfect for romantic or adult setups where users need more control.

Built-in Method

Often not very well known among creators. Much easier to set up, directly in the Avpos notecard. All you need is a name for the pose and the sequence setup after it. Yes, it can be used with POSE and SYNC as well.

The setup looks something like:

POSE NAME|ANIM1|44.5|ANIM2|44.5

Please note that timing is added directly to this line.

It gives zero control to the user. Hence, it is perfect for scenes. I like to use it in Sit Scenes with Real Sequences, but it looks like that sometimes causes confusion and panic among some creators. Never forget: at [RNP], if there is a couple avatar setup or something more complex than a usual sit, there is always an example/reference model in the pack, together with instructions.

So, if you want the user to have control, use a Classic sequence.

If there is no need for control, as is the case with [RNP] scenes, use the Built-in Method.
